Students' Finished Instruments
Paul
Mahogany Tenor Ukulele
Paul was primarily interested in developing the skills to build instruments and continues to attend sessions to further develop and maintain those skills. Wood and Strings stock all the materials to build instruments from scratch. Pre-purchase a kit, or select your timbers and fittings during your first session.

Jarred
Walnut Telecaster
Jarred had a clear vision of the guitar he wanted to build. Once completed, he was massively impressed by the quality, and playability of this very personal version of a legendary guitar.

Chris
Olivewood Telecaster
This is a unique instrument, that is a pleasure to touch, hear and see. The one-piece olivewood body was sourced from an Olive tree, planted on MacKinnon Parade from the Hackney Nursery stock of 15,000 olive trees that were auctioned when John Bailey closed his Adelaide nursery in 1858.

Ashton
Green Stratocaster
It only took Ashton six weeks to build this magnificent guitar from a Wood & Strings Deluxe Stratocaster® Electric Guitar Kit.
He customised the fretboard inlays and neck shape to achieve the look and feel he was looking for.

Melvyn
Mini Strat
When designing this custom Wood & Strings model, we considered the playability and ease of building for a younger person.
Melvyn was five years old when completing this awesome guitar. The enthusiasm for the build and skill he demonstrated at such a young age was a delight to witness.

Peter
Jumbo Acoustic Guitar
An impulse thought “I wonder if I could build a guitar?”
A Google search quickly found www.woodandstrings.com.au and led to a meeting with luthier Michael Snowden.
Michael’s easy-going manner and ‘can do’ attitude allayed any self-doubt about my ability to build a quality instrument that I would be proud to own.
I decided what type of guitar I wanted to build and, with Michael’s helpful advice, I chose the timbers I wanted to use.
A clean, tidy, organised workshop, well equipped with the best tools, jigs and templates to build almost any stringed instrument, made the experience most enjoyable.
Having no course deadline meant that my guitar would be built at my own pace. I’m now the proud owner of a unique custom built Jumbo Acoustic Guitar.
My advice? Don’t THINK about building an instrument…. DO IT!

Robert
OM Acoustic Guitar
Robert arrived at the W+S studio with a Huon Pine back and sides set that he wanted to use to make a family heirloom.
Huon Pine grows extremely slowly, averaging just 1 millimetre in girth per year and they can grow to be 2,500 years old which means some of these amazing trees started life BC!
Robert's input and ideas were amazing, and the result is a fantastic guitar that has a rich and beautiful tone.
Everyone that hears the instrument is impressed and Robert is busy making further instruments from the same timber to satisfy family and friends.
