Tasmanian Blackheart Sassafras

When the Sassafras tree is infected with a staining fungus it produces Blackheart Sassafras. Blackheart is a spalted timber with distinctive dark brown, black, and even green streaks running through the wood.

This spectacular species finishes to a grey and golden tone and is a particularly attractive timber with knots and variations providing an interesting figure.

Blackheart Sassafras has a unique, warm tone that resides between the tonal qualities of Walnut and Maple. It bends easily and is very workable.
